The recent killing of Osama bin Laden is hoped by many in Kabul and across Afghanistan to bring a change of spirits to the country. Beautifully designed in European style, the Paghman garden resembles the same style. Many of the garden’s buildings were built by German and French architects in western Kabul. Unfortunately, the Paghman garden of Kabul turned from a place of peace to a place of of war as it formed into battleground for the Mujaheddins. Although some remains of the Paghman garden still exist it has lost much of its original style.

Built during 5th century B.C.The Bala Hissar is the famed fortress of Kabul. This fortress was used as the most important defensive shelter for Afghanistan’s ruler. In 1879, General Roberts ravaged the fortress as retaliation for an Afghanistan killing a British resident by the name of Cavagnari. This event triggered the Second Anglo-Afgan War.
